Changes! And They’re Freaking Awesome, OMG. (Yep. I said “OMG”.)

Ch-ch-ch-ch-changes!

So there are a few changes coming up. Some are minor and immediate, and some are still in the works. First and foremost, my business name will be undergoing a very slight, but very important change. “Sarah Mica Photography” has been changed to “Sarahmica Phogotraphy“. The “Sarah” and the “Mica” fell in love and got hitched. They are no longer separate; they are now one. The name change has already taken place on my website and blog, and will soon officially take place on Facebook (I invite you – no, I BEG you to please, pretty please, go ahead and “like” the New Sarahmica Photography Facebook Page), but legally, it’s going to be about 10 or so more days until it is OFFICIAL-official, with the paper work and such. Then, of course, there’s the making of new promo materials and business cards, blah, blah, etc., which I haven’t yet started.

This name change is a relief for me. I sleep better because of it. Something didn’t feel right about the old name. For one, everyone kept mispronouncing it. The “Mica” should be pronounced MEE-kuh, not my-kuh. Secondly, Sarah is my actual first name, yes, but “Mica” is not my surname. “Mica” is a shortened version of my Spanish middle name, Micaela. The old “Sarah Mica Photography” was misleading in that one would naturally assume that my full, legal name is Sarah Mica (and pronounce it my-kuh). This started to drive me a little batty, to be honest. I realized about a year ago that I should have named my business simply Sarahmica Photography. It’s taken me this long to get off my arse and just do it, already. Sarahmica rolls off the tongue and encourages the correct pronunciation. And it’s just more “me”. Why don’t I use my first and last name, like everyone else? Because back when I first double-dog-dared myself to officially start this little portrait photography venture, I knew I wanted a certain amount of anonymity, a distinct separation between myself and my business entity. Also, there are so many “Jane Doe Photography” type names out there. The new name fits me perfectly and I feel very good about it.

So that’s that. My business entity shall henceforth be referred to as Sarahmica Photography! Hooray!

Change #2:  After much thought and debate with my inner critic (my inner critic and I have many spirited debates, heh.), I’ve decided to shake it up and do things a little differently with my prints/products offerings. What does this mean? Well, in short, this means that everything just got awesome-er.

Firstly, I’m no longer offering Gallery Canvas Wraps. My reasoning is simple: I think this product is a little old-fashioned and passé. I’m streamlining my offerings so that they more accurately reflect my artistic vision and aesthetic…and Gallery Canvas Wraps definitely do not fit. Words like “contemporary”, “modern”, “Rock ‘n’ Roll”, “chic”, “plush”, “edgy”, and “dramatic” come to mind when I think about the particular style of photographic works I love to create (and hope to keep creating!) and the products I want to I offer. So I’ve replaced the canvas wraps with a brand new product that I think truly says Sarahmica Photography! Wait for it…

BAMBOO MOUNTED WALL PRINTS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, I said BAMBOO! Holy schmoly, this new product is so freaking gorgeous.  See for yourself!

When you order prints from me, whether they’re smaller sized, table top prints or enlarged prints for your walls, you will always have a choice between three different finishes for each print (which is included in the cost): Lustre, Deep Matte, and Pearl Gloss. This particular Bamboo Mounted Print was prepared using the Deep Matte finish (my personal favorite).

If you’re looking for a UNIQUE, CONTEMPORARY, and ECO-CONSCIOUS way of displaying your beautiful images sans frame, Bamboo Panel Mounting is the premier quality alternative to traditional “enlarging and framing”. Your images are printed on Fuji Professional Paper mounted onto gorgeous  ¾” thick carbonized vertical grain bamboo and will have a pre-drilled keyhole on the back for easy hanging. Prints sizes for this product start at 16×20 and go up to 20×30.

Check out the bamboo grain!

It’s multi-functional, too! Just turn the print over, and use the back as a cutting board. I KID! I KID! Totally joking. Don’t you dare use this stunning work of art as a kitchen tool!  :)

But seriously, it’s pretty cool, right? I adore it.

Change #3:  ALL of my prints now come mounted!!! Yes, each and every one. Yes, even the 4×6. The thing is, I care deeply about my prints. They should be of the highest professional quality and always look amazing. They should be loved, protected, and handled with care. Therefore, they should all be mounted!

When you order, say, smaller table top size prints, I understand you may not have time to mat and/or frame them right away. You may even stick them in a drawer and forget about them for awhile…THE UTTER SHAME! Shame, shame, shame. Because while those lovely, high-quality prints are sitting in your drawer for days and weeks, they’re beginning to curl and lose their integrity, not to mention their very dignity, the poor things! They were made for more! They were created to be SHOWN OFF! MATTED, FRAMED, AND DISPLAYED ON LEVEL SURFACES IN YOUR HOME! OR HUNG ON A WALL! But I totally get it. Life is hectic and busy. So I’ve put a stop to the (unintentional) demoralization of my lovely prints. Mounting not only looks beautiful, but it protects the prints, as well. It’s a win-win!

So, here’s the deal. All print sizes 5×7 up to 11×17 come mounted on black styrene. Styrene is a very thin but strong, plastic-like material. It is moisture resistant and thin enough for easy framing. I love styrene! The 4×6 print size comes mounted on light-weight matboard; unfortunately, styrene can’t be cut that small. But matboard is the next best thing.

This is what a Styrene Mounted Print looks like:

Change #4:  Pricing. Being that I  have significantly upgraded my offerings, my pricing for said offerings must be upgraded as well. In other words, you get what you pay for. I do not offer prints on par with the quality of CVS or Walgreens. I offer high-quality, professional prints that come mounted on equally high-quality, professional materials. If you have any questions regarding my pricing info, please get in touch!

Since I’m talking about and showing images of my prints/products, I might as well talk about Enlarged Wall Prints! Enlarged Wall Prints are a fabulous way to display your images! Printed on Fuji Professional Paper mounted on sleek, black 1.5” foam-core standouts, Enlarged Wall Prints are extremely light weight and come ready to be hung on your wall, no frame necessary! Print sizes for this product start at 16×20 and go up to 30×40.

Check it!

This is a 20×30 size print.

The 20×30 size is smaller than you may think, once you see it up on a wall! When it comes to prints, bigger is always better.

Well, that’s about it in the immediate changes department. I’m working on offering another really, really amazing new product: a collection of Luxury Coffee Table Books, similar to photo albums, but WAY better and totally NON-traditional. Stay tuned for more news on this. Another change that may be taking place sometime in the future is a new logo and branding. But that won’t happen until next year, probably. Those ideas are still baking.

Cheers!
