Ah, the W Family. Such a beautiful family, both inside and out, and such sweet friends. I’ve been photographing their little girl, Skye Belle, since she was 6 months old. And it has sort of turned into a tradition to photograph her every year around her birthday (as you can see here). In fact, Skye and I share the exact same birthday in early September! We always seem to luck out and get gorgeous weather for her photo shoots; September in Boston is absolutely beautiful. This time, though, we did the shoot last month in mid-November, a few months after her 3rd birthday…and the weather was unbelievably perfect! I’m beginning to think Skye has some sort of positive influence over the sun!
The W Family prefers for me to focus mainly on Skye during these photo shoots, squeezing in a few family shots towards the end. This family is going to have a 4th little member very soon, so there will likely be more photo shoots to come for them in the near future.
If the star of this shoot was Skye, the supporting star was the lovely, golden sunrays that gave some amazing backlight to work with. An interesting note for the photo geeks out there: This entire shoot was done using only natural light, something I haven’t done in a long time. Using nothing but natural light is extremely rare for me, as I am a lover of dramatic lighting, and, therefore, plan my shoots around how I will light my subject(s) with my strobes. However, this departure from the norm was a nice little reminder that natural light can be stunning on its own, if you know how to spot and harness it.

*And because I love this particular photo so much in both color and black & white, I’m showing both:
Just look at this beautiful child glowing in the sun…
